Why Chelsea didn’t sign Victor Osimhen – Enzo Maresca

Date:

Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca reveals the club chose not to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen during the recent transfer window after the Nigerian international declined to accept their terms.

Osimhen was reportedly interested in joining Chelsea, but the deal stalled due to disagreements over the player’s salary demands.

Chelsea had been heavily linked with Osimhen throughout the transfer period, but negotiations dragged on until the final day without a resolution.

Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli also made a lucrative offer, but Osimhen’s preference was to move to Chelsea. However, with both parties unable to agree on financial terms, the transfer fell through, leaving Osimhen at Napoli.

After Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, Maresca confirmed that the club only wanted to sign players under specific conditions, and since those conditions were not met, the deal for Osimhen did not materialize.

“We want players, but we wanted a player that we decide it has to be on our conditions. If a player is not here then it was not,” Maresca said.

The coach hinted that Chelsea might still be in the market for a new striker in January, leaving the door open for a potential move for Osimhen in the future.

Currently, the situation looks uncertain for Victor Osimhen, as he has been excluded from Napoli’s squad, with a reconciliation between the player and the club impossible.

This leaves the forward stranded and will be notably absent from the football pitch till January.
