“We Still Have a Big Chance” – Eguavoen on World Cup Chances

Date:

Despite a rocky start to their World Cup qualifying campaign, Nigeria’s Super Eagles still have a chance to secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to interim coach Augustine Eguavoen.

The Super Eagles currently sit fifth in their group, having earned just 3 points from 4 matches.

With only the top team guaranteed to advance from the group, Nigeria faces an uphill battle.

However, the four best-ranked runners-up across all groups will have a chance to participate in a play-off, giving them another route to qualification through the inter-confederation play-offs.

Speaking on Brila FM in a no-holds-barred interview, Eguavoen expressed confidence in the team’s ability to turn their fortunes around. He emphasized that the key to success lies in treating every remaining match like a final.

“Positive thinking. If we approach every game like a cup final, leave the rest.

Put out our best, play your heart out, don’t look at game two, look at the game right infront of you.

Once we can win the games at least 1-0 each, we’ve got a big chance”

Nigeria’s absence from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was a major disappointment, and failing to qualify for the 2026 tournament would be a devastating blow for the team and its fans.

The pressure is on for the Super Eagles to deliver and reclaim their place among the world’s football elite.
