‘I Want to Get Better’ – Lookman Amid Ballon d’Or Nomination

Date:

Despite earning a coveted Ballon d’Or nomination, Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman remains humble and focused on his personal growth, stating that his main focus is to get better every day.

The African Footballer of the Year contender admitted he’s uncertain if public perception of him has shifted, but emphasized that his personal goal is to become stronger and more consistent.

Lookman has been in outstanding form, recently becoming the eighth Nigerian footballer to receive the prestigious Ballon d’Or nomination. However, the Atalanta winger remains grounded despite the global attention and the interest from top clubs.

Following Atalanta’s 3-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League, Lookman shared that he is not trying to alter his approach. Instead, he’s determined to keep doing what has brought him success thus far.

“I don’t know if people’s perception of me has changed, but I just try to improve and become stronger everyday.

This is the most important thing for me. I try to work hard on a daily basis for my character and my goals and I’ve remained the same person as before.”  Lookman said in quotes revealed by The Guardian.

He also acknowledged the strength of Atalanta’s attacking squad, praising the diversity of talent around him.

“We have a very strong group of attackers, great players with different characteristics.

Each one wants to play to show their qualities. Being able to take the field with players like this is wonderful for me. They help me become better,”

The 26-year-old scored his first UEFA Champions League goal in the match against Shakhtar, and entered the history books as the second Atalanta player to record both a goal and an assist in a single Champions League game.
