The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Godfrey Philip Nkhakananga from Malawi to officiate 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifier clash between Nigeria and Libya.
The match will take place on Friday, October 11, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, with a 5 p.m. Nigerian time kick-off.
Nkhakananga will be supported by fellow Malawians Clemence Kanduku and Joseph Nyauti as assistant referees, while Keabetswe Dintwa from Botswana will serve as the fourth official.
Munkaila Nassam Adam from Ghana has been appointed as the match commissioner, and Issaka Boubacar from Niger will act as the referee assessor.
This is Nkhakananga’s first time officiating a match involving either Nigeria or Libya, however, his career has not been without controversy.
He was suspended for four months in 2023 for poor officiating during an Airtel Top 8 Cup match between Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers in Malawi.
Yet, CAF has entrusted him with the responsibility for this crucial AFCON qualifier.
Nigeria currently leads Group D with four points after defeating Benin 3-0 and drawing 0-0 with Rwanda.
The Super Eagles will look to maintain their position in the group with a strong performance against Libya.
