The Super Falcons of Nigeria secured a strong 6-1 aggregate victory over Algeria in a two-match friendly series.
The Falcons won the first leg 2-0, with team captain Rasheedat Ajibade scoring twice at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.
The second match, played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, ended 4-1, featuring a hat-trick from Folasade Ijamilu and a goal by Gift Monday.
After the games, Super Falcons interim coach, Justin Madugu shared his perspective on the Algerian team and the experience for Nigeria’s largely home-based squad.
“It’s always the beginning. You meet different kinds of opposition. They are a team that has also qualified for the World Cup, so we cannot discount them and look at them as if they are a weak side.”
Madugu also spoke on the importance of the experience for Nigeria’s home-based players, many of whom wore the national team jersey for the first time.
“Looking at our home-based players, you all know that this is purely, basically like the home-based players that we are also prosecuting.”
“A lot of them, this is the first time they are also putting on the national team jersey. So, I think from what they have shown, it is looking very promising for us too.”
