APR FC forfeit Points Due to Inclusion of Captain Nwobodo

Date:

The Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) has confirmed that APR FC has forfeited their match against Gorilla FC, which took place recently at the King Pele Stadium.

The decision comes as part of the sanctions imposed by the FERWAFA Competition Commission after APR FC was found guilty of breaching the league’s foreign player quota rules.

Nigerian midfielder, Chidiebere Nwobodo, who joined APR FC this summer after captaining Enugu Rangers to a league title, was at the center of the controversy.

The issue arose when APR FC fielded more foreign players than the allowed limit during the game.

According to FERWAFA, the league regulations permit each club to field a maximum of six foreign players in a match.

However, the Rwandan club side coach Novic started with six foreign players in the lineup and further compounded the problem by making a double substitution.

The coach brought on Mamadou Sy and Nwobodo in the second half, which increased the number of foreign players on the pitch to seven, breaching Article 8.2 of the competition rules.

The federation’s ruling states that APR FC’s violation of the player quota rule is a serious offense, resulting in the automatic forfeit of the match.

As a consequence, Gorilla FC has been awarded the three points from the game.
