Arne Slot: No Sympathy for Pep Guardiola

Date:

Liverpool boss, Arne Slot has dismissed any notion of sympathy for Pep Guardiola following Manchester City’s 2-0 defeat at Anfield on Sunday, their fourth consecutive Premier League loss.

Goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah sealed a comfortable win for Liverpool, extending their lead at the top of the table to a commanding 11 points over fifth-place City.

City’s loss continued a worrying trend, as they have now gone seven games without a win, their longest such streak since August 2008 — just before the club was taken over by Sheikh Mansour.

Despite the grim run of results for the reigning champions, Slot made it clear that he did not feel sorry for Guardiola. When asked about his sympathy for the struggling City manager, Slot explained:

“You feel sympathy or empathy with the managers that are in a really bad place. They’ve either lost many games or they’re down at the bottom of the league but Pep has won so many things and he’s shown so many times already.”

Arne Slot continued: “That’s why the league is not decided in November. Last season they were eight points behind Arsenal I think in February. No one has to feel sorry for Pep, maybe for other managers but not for Pep. He’s won so many things and he will be able to bring City back.”

It’s been a fantastic week for Liverpool, who also secured a stunning win over Real Madrid in the Champions League, maintaining their perfect record in Europe.

The Reds now have a nine-point cushion at the top of the Premier League as they continue their impressive run across all competitions.
