Nigerian midfielder, Alex Iwobi starred with a goal and an assist to help Fulham stun title favourites Liverpool — and he’s not shy about what fueled the upset: pure energy and belief.
Speaking after Fulham’s thrilling win over the Reds, Iwobi revealed that manager Marco Silva had only one major demand ahead of the clash — intensity.
“We’re working on the tactics all week but I feel like the manager said we have to put in energy in the game and we did that from the first minute,” Iwobi said.
Despite going behind early, Fulham showed no signs of panic. Iwobi said the team remained convinced they could derail Liverpool’s title hopes — and that’s exactly what they did.
“Even though we went a goal down, we still had the belief that we can do or get a result against the champions — probably going to be the champions — but not against us. They weren’t going to win against us.”
Iwobi, who has played across multiple positions throughout his career, embraced a high-energy role in Fulham’s setup.
The 27-year-old midfielder was deployed with the freedom to press, create, and disrupt Liverpool’s rhythm — and he delivered.
“I’ve had it all my career, so the first thing I’m always going to do is give 100%. So wherever I’m told to play, I understand where I’m told, the role I’ve been given — so it never ever phases me.”
“But all that was demanded was that I run around and give 100% again.”
With his relentless work rate and decisive contributions, Alex Iwobi didn’t just help Fulham secure three points — he may have handed the title race a dramatic twist.
Liverpool may be champions-elect… but not on Iwobi’s watch.
