The inability of Chidozie Awaziem to get a single minute of action with the Super Eagles at this year’s World Cup has been cited as a possible stumbling block for his hope of getting an extension to his spell at FC Nantes of France.
Awaziem was a regular of sorts under Claudio Ranieri last season in Ligue 1, but the central defender was only playing on loan from FC Porto of Portugal, with high hopes of getting an extension this summer.
However, after failing to come of the Eagles’ in all their group matches before an early elimination from the contest in Russia, Awaziem is now expected at Porto next week.
Following his successful loan spell, Awaziem was granted two weeks extra to rest, after his World Cup absence, despite getting enough game time during his days at Nantes.
Last season, Awaziem played a total of 1,510 minutes in all competitions, starting 16 and got off the bench six times.
He had an overall rating of 6.7, pass accuracy of 76.5 per cent, 1.4 aerial duels per game, won an average two tackles per game, scored one goal and had one assist.
