Chelsea Players Try Out Aussie Rules Football During For Training

Date:

The Blues are preparing for their pre-season clash with Perth Glory in Australia, but took time out to play a different kind of football.

Cesc Fabregas and Pedro were just two of the 25-man Chelsea squad booting the egg-shaped football around at the famous cricket stadium.

Chelsea play the A-League side on Monday, before heading to France to take on Inter Milan and then Ireland to face Arsenal. Maurizio Sarri is getting his first look at his Blues squad Down Under – with the likes of Tammy Abraham and David Luiz in the squad.

But all eyes will be on the futures of Belgium’s World Cup heroes Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois – currently enjoying a well-earned holiday.

They traveled straight to the WACA, of Ashes fame, to undertake one of the seven training sessions pencilled in during their short stay on the east coast of Australia. The hectic schedule is designed to make up for lost time after Sarri’s delayed arrival.

Players absent from the World Cup were put through their paces by the new boss, who wants to instil his attacking brand of football – dubbed ‘Sarri-ball’ by some around Chelsea.

Having only taken charge this week, he has limited time to introduce his tactics before their curtain-raising Community Shield clash against Manchester City on August 5.
