Former Super Eagles captain, Nwankwo Kanu had about his simplest birthday celebration ever on Wednesday, as the ex-soccer star marked the day almost all alone, and sent a personal greeting to himself.
Unlike in days past, when ‘Papilo’ would either be surrounded by teammates at club level or in the national side, as well as well-wishers from far and wide, the lanky one chose to be all alone this time out.
So much he showed with a post on social media, in which Kanu put aside all sportswear and the former Ajax, Inter Milan and Arsenal icon donned his suit for a special pose.
He, however, would not forget to give thanks to God for making the day possible, as Kanu added spiritual words to back his pose and mark his day with thanksgiving.
Kanu wrote: “I THANK GOD.HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME.#thankgod #happybirthdaytome.”
However, rather than keep him all alone in celebrating the day he clocked 42, Kanu’s wife, Amarachi, later posted a message of congratulations for him on her Instagram page.
“Oh look what 1st August brought us. Happy birthday to you champ @kingkanu4. You are loved,” Amarachi Kanu wrote on Wednesday.
