Akwa Ibom Govt Denies Renaming Godswill Akpabio Stadium

Date:

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Honourable Charles Udoh has denied media reports that the state government has changed the name of Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, due to the defection to a rival party by their former governor, who the arena is named after.

Udoh said the report is false and due to the handiwork of unscrupulous elements, who he accused of embarking on a mischievous intent of misleading the unsuspecting public and generating skewed sentiments.

The commissioner stated further that the current administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel has a high level of integrity and would not descend to what he called ‘lowly heights’ of renaming the picturesque stadium, fondly called Nest of Champions.

Udoh added: “Akwa Ibom State government is committed to continue its single-minded pursuit of the avowed goal of people-oriented governance and sustainable development of the state. The Akwa Ibom project is beyond any personal interest.”
