Abia State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has declared that he wants to see Enyimba of Aba in the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup final, hence his promise to give the club total support in their pursuit of victory during the semi-finals.
The Peoples Elephant booked a semi-final clash with Raja Casablanca of Morocco, after sinking Rayon Sport of Rwanda 5-1 on Sunday, after which footballlive.ng gathered that Okezie said the former African champions need total support to reach the final.
Enyimba will host Raja Casablanca in a CAF Confederation Cup semi-final first leg in Aba on October 3, with the return leg in Morocco three weeks later, October 24 in Casablanca.
Raja stopped CARA Brazzaville 3-1 on aggregate to join Enyimba in the last four, after the Moroccans won by a goal, having beaten the Congolese 2-1 in Brazzaville a week ago.
Ikpeazu congratulated Enyimba for beating Rayon Sport and promised to provide required and necessary support to the team, in order for them to once again make history, even as they are currently as the only surviving Nigeria club side in CAF competitions.
Ikpeazu, who was at the refurbished Enyimba International Stadium, Aba to watch the team trounce Rayon Sport, said he was impressed with the performance of the players, who he said showed determination to win the game.
In a statement by his chief press secretary, Enyinnaya Appolos, Ikpeazu also commended the club’s management, the coaches, their supporters and residents of Aba, who trooped out en masse to cheer the team to victory.
He added: “Enyimba players (should) go all out and win the continental trophy as a way of appreciating the state government for providing a world class pitch for them as well as their ever loyal and supportive fans across the nation.”
