Abia Warriors and El-Kanemi Warriors are set to create history as the first teams to compete in the final of Nigeria’s oldest club competition, Federation Cup in Abuja next Saturday.
Both teams secured their spots after emerging victorious in their respective semi-final matches on Thursday.
Abia Warriors advanced to the final with a dramatic 4-3 win on penalties against Kano Pillars at the Lafia City Stadium. The match ended in a goalless draw after 90 minutes, leading to the decisive shootout.
Abia Warriors converted all four of their penalty kicks, while Kano Pillars missed two, with their forward Ibrahim Mustapha missing the crucial kick.
Similarly, El-Kanemi Warriors triumphed over Kebbi United in another penalty shootout, winning 5-4 at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project in Abuja. This match also ended goalless in regular time.
In the shootout, Kebbi United missed their second kick, while El-Kanemi Warriors successfully converted all five of their attempts, securing their place in the final.
The grand finale of the Federation Cup will be held at the MKO Abiola National Stadium on June 29th.
