Nigerian striker, Ademola Lookman has been shortlisted for the competitve African Player of the Year award, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announcing the five finalists on Monday.
Lookman, who starred for Atalanta in the 2023 UEFA Europa League, is joined by South Africa’s Ronwen Williams, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy as contenders for the coveted title.
Lookman made headlines last season after scoring a hat-trick in Atalanta’s 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Europa League final.
His contribution to Nigeria’s 2023 AFCON journey also makes him a favorite to take home the award.
The winner will be announced at a ceremony in Marrakesh, Morocco, on December 16, where various awards will be presented to the best men’s and women’s footballers in Africa.
