Ademola Lookman writes his name in the history books by becoming the first player to score a hat-trick in a Europa League final.
The 26-year-old Nigerian forward led Atalanta to a stunning 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, securing the UEFA Europa League title.
Lookman’s stunning performance saw him net three goals against his Super Eagles teammates Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella, marking a historic moment for Atalanta as well.
He became the first Atalanta player to score in a Europa League final, breaking a streak of Nigerian players scoring in finals only to see their teams lose.
The victory also ended Bayer Leverkusen’s impressive 51-game unbeaten run. Atalanta’s triumph was especially sweet, coming just a week after their Coppa Italia defeat to Juventus.
Atalanta remains the only team to have defeated Bayer Leverkuseen this season and was done single-handedly by a man called Ademola Lookman.
