Edo Queens gaffer, Moses Aduku has expressed his gratitude to God, as his team fought to their maiden NWFL conquest. The Edo Queens clained their first league title on the final day in a three horse race. The gaffer described the final six teams as ‘super’ in a thrilling title race.
“My joy knows no bounds. I want to thank God for the victory. It was not an easy battle. The last match was tough from the beginning to the end. All the six teams that qualify for the Super Six are super teams and we won it because we gave competition”, Aduku said.
Aduku relived the final day drama, where his team claimed a point against Bayelsa Queens but also needed results to favour them at another venue.
He admitted that his team had banked on Rivers Angels failing to win their own game, and they would at least make the continental slot.
“When we looked at our points, 9, Rivers 8, Bayelsa 8 too and Bayelsa will be playing us. So it was a difficult match for us. And Rivers are playing a team that they could not win, that was what we were banking on. That the Rivers Angels should not be able to win”, said the gaffer.
He also explained about the ending drama was when he found out that Rivers Angels had taken the lead, and all that led up his team claiming the title.
“But we are banking our hope on if we can win at Bayelsa. Then we go into the continent without looking at the result of the Rivers Angels. But when the game started and we were playing 1-1 in Yenagoa, and I had somebody watching the Rivers Angels game and we heard that they scored, It was something else”.
“I did not lose hope, but I had to change tactics. Because while we were playing 1-1 and it was 0-0 in Nembe, I decided to try to score and also not allow them to score against us. But then it was 1-0 and I need to give out everything. Because if we don’t score and we don’t win, Rivers takes the day. It was tough, but at the end of the game, Edo Queens came out as a winner”.
