AFCON 2019: Eagles midfield coming of age. -Rohr

Date:

Super Eagles technical adviser Gernot Rohr has stated that the team is on its way to playing good, efficient and beautiful football due to the emerging talents in the team’s midfield.

Rohr in the last Africa Cup of Nations double header against Libya played the trio of Stoke City’s Oghenekaro Etebo, Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi and Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi in midfield and he believes the partnership is gelling and strong enough to control the tempo of games at the same time playing exciting and entertaining football.

The Eagles beat Libya back to back in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers and are currently top of Group E on 9 points closely followed by South Africa on 8 points, Libya with 4 points and Seychelles on 1 points.

The Franco-German trainer said “We played with the same midfield and you can see they have a very good understanding amongst themselves, there is Iwobi who plays like a no10, he can go anywhere because he is free to play offensively, he also has the inspiration to give good passes.

Also we have Etebo and Ndidi, we also have John Ogu who came in in the second leg and did well. Now I think we are on the right way to play good football and also be efficient.”

Nigeria’s next AFCON qualifying fixture comes up on November 15 against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa where the Eagles will be hoping to revenge the two nil loss it suffered to the South At Ivan nation in the opening match of the 2019 African qualifying series in Uyo.
