The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers will take place in Johannesburg on Thursday, July 4th.
The qualifying draw will feature 48 teams, divided into 12 groups of four. The top two teams from each group will advance to the finals, which are set to be held in Morocco.
CAF has not yet announced the exact dates for the 2025 AFCON finals. However, CAF Secretary General Veron Mosengo-Omba recently told BBC Sport Africa that scheduling the finals has been “a nightmare,” and suggested that the tournament might be held in December 2025 or even in 2026.
“We need to make sure that the dates we choose will be in the interests of the players,” he emphasized.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria, runners-up in the 2023 AFCON, will charge for the title once again as they are determined to win the competition for the first time since 2013.
