AFCON: Former Super Eagles Star Tips Next Gen to Triumph

Date:

Former Super Eagles midfielder, Oladimeji Lawal has expressed strong confidence that Nigeria will be crowned the champions of the next Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

Lawal emphasized that he genuinely believes in the Super Eagles, and the team’s talent to win the tournament, leaving no room for doubt in his declaration.

“Nigeria will be the team to beat at the next CAF Nations Cup. I do not doubt that,” the former player said.

“We have the generation of young African talents doing so well in various European top clubs. Not only that, they are young and have the opportunity to play with and against the best legs week in and week out,” he bullishly stressed.

He however, suggested that the coaches in the national team must now look to building the cohesion in the team rather than testing players in every position without being sure of who will be playing.

“My advice for the technical crew is simple: the time of trials should be over. We have had enough of testing and trials. It’s time to build a formidable team with cohesion and understanding.”

“Suddenly, we have become a country without a standing team. It’s not the best for our football. I know the first eleven of Germany, England, Spain, Holland, and France, unless there are any unforeseen circumstances.

“Our coaching crew keeps searching for new half-casts or European-born players every day. That must stop now so that they can focus on team cohesion.”
