Afelokhai Finally Gets Super Eagles’ Invitation

Date:

The much expected invitation of in-form Enyimba of Aba goalkeeper, Theophilus Afelokhai to the Super Eagles has eventually come to pass, as footballlive.ng gathered that the former Kano Pillars shot-stopper received a late call-up on Monday.

However, Afelokhai’s invitation is only coming due to the fact that Eagles’ first choice, Francis Odinaka Uzoho has been ruled out with injury from of the November 17 clash against South Africa.

Uzoho copped a rib injury in action with his club on Sunday, and is no longer in contention to feature against Bafana Bafana in the AFCON 2019 qualifier in Johannesburg, as he will be out for four weeks.

Uzoho paved the way for Afelokhai to gain his much agitated for invitation, after the former Deportivo La Coruna keeper left the pitch on a stretcher.

Incidentally, Uzoho’s exit came after he conceded five goals in E‎lche’s 5-1 loss against Cadiz and, after the rib injury was said to have caused improper breathing, Elche confirmed the star’s month-long absence.

Consequently, Afelokhai has been called up to join Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi at the Eagles’ camp that opens this weekend in Asaba, Delta State.

Ironically, though he has been left out all this while, Afelokhai was first choice ahead of Ezenwa in Enyimba’s CAF Confederation Cup campaign and used the opportunity to pull of remarkable saves.
