Nigerian forward Oladapo Afolayan found the net as St. Pauli secured a remarkable 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg on Saturday.
After suffering three consecutive losses at the start of the season, St. Pauli earned a crucial point with an impressive goalless draw against RB Leipzig last week.
The newly promoted side carried that momentum into their match at the Europa-Park Stadion.
Tunisian striker Elias Saad scored a brace, with Afolayan strike in the 45th minute secured the visitors’ victory.
Following the match, Afolayan shared his thoughts in a chat revealed onSt. Pauli’s website:
“I enjoy every game I’m on the pitch in. It’s hard work and believing in yourself.”
He also acknowledged the contributions of his teammates:
“That applies to all the guys who have come in over the past few weeks. I’m not just thinking of myself, but also of Carlo, Manos, and Elias. Each of us wanted to show that we have the quality.”
“We know that we have the ability to cause other teams problems with that. We were unlucky against Leipzig. We knew that we had to put in a performance like that again. Today we scored the chances.”
This victory serves as a much-needed boost, lifting St. Pauli out of the relegation zone and into 14th position.
