Standard Liege of Belgium defender, Uche Agbo has turned his attention on the Europa League, in his bid for continental club glory in Europe, following his side’s elimination by Ajax of Holland in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
Ajax sent packing Standard Liege from the UEFA Champions League 5-2 on aggregate and Agbo admitted his Belgian club were simply outclassed by the 1995 European champions in Amsterdam.
Agbo and his teammates fought back to draw 2-2 with Ajax at home a week ago, but it was different on Tuesday night, as they were routed 3-0 by the Dutch giants.
The Belgian club will now drop down to play in the Europa League playoffs, and Agbo says that is where he will hope to keep his Euro club glory dreams alive.
Agbo said: “Ajax were clearly better than us. In the first game, we had to come from two goals down to draw, but that was not the case in the second leg. It was a difficult game.
“My dream of playing in the Champions League this year has ended. We will shift all focus to the Europa League now and try to do well.”
