Aghahowa Preaches Patience With Finidi

Date:

Former Nigerian international, Julius Aghahowa has said that Finidi George requires time to make things click with the Nigerian national team. Aghahowa was speaking ag the aftermath of the shocking 2-1 deafeat to Benin Republic, which has attracted a lot of reactions.

Aghahowa mentioned that there are always high expectations with the super eagles, although the coach is still trying to test out and know what works best for the team. He added that a longterm project is the best vision with Finidi, and he is currently shaking things up and causing an ‘inbalance’.

“When the super eagles have a game like this, the expectation is always very high. And more importantly, this particular period is because we have our own homegrown coach is handling the team at the moment. So, a lot of expectation are on him. So, if we want to give our homegrown coach opportunity to coach this team, they must give the coach a long term contract. So that by the time they are shaking up the team, they need to bring in some players, pick out some players, by the time you are doing that, there will be inbalance in the team”, said Aghahowa

He further explained that instant results are expected to be difficult for the new gaffer, as he’ll be trying to find a perfect setup, within such a short time.

“And when there is inbalance in the team like that, you don’t expect results automatically from the beginning. You don’t expect results instantly because he’s trying to try some players that were not given the opportunity to play before. For example, Osimhen, he’s not a part of this team right now but now we are finding difficult to get another scorer in the team because he has been there all the time playing regularly. So right now, finding another player who fits into that position, it’s difficult because you need to try this player”, the former player added.
