Aigbogun Discusses Super Eagles Coaching Conundrum

Date:

Former assistant technical director of the Nigerian football federation, Paul Aigbogun has shared his thoughts concerning the coaching situation of the senior national team. The former Enyimba gaffer started by confirming that he has not applied for the role, and stating his reason why.

He said:

“No, i haven’t applied now”

“I mean, I thought the advert came out obviously, and obviously it’s a job that everybody would try. But I think sometimes things come up at the right time in everybody’s life and the right time, it’s not to say that it wouldn’t be an honour to do it, but that just hasn’t been the thought process at the moment”

Speaking about the situation of who should take the reigns of the super eagles, the tactician said there is a thought process behind publicly advertising the role, and hinted that the federation also had some names in mind.

Aigbogun, in his exact words said:

“The team just came back from the AFCON, I think it was the right decision. I know there was a lot of talk before the AFCON to change the coach, but I think the federation made the right decision to stay with the coach. At the end of it all, I think the team did well to get to the final”

“And then I think at the end of that, then both parties, confirmed to part company. I think it’s brought up the same talk of should it be a foreign coach, should it be a local coach. And I’m sure with advertising, i’m sure there must be a thought process with the federation behind it, the intelligent people there”.

“So they, I guess they just want to really have a look and see what’s out there. I don’t think the last time it was advertised, so this time I think maybe it’s just bringing a different approach into it and see what happens. But I’m sure they must have people in mind also”.
