Plateau United of Jos goalkeeper, Dele Ajiboye has received words of comfort from Super Eagles’ shot-stoppers’ trainer, Alloy Agu, following his exclusion from Nigeria’s squad to the World Cup.
Ajiboye, who was the star of Nigeria’s conquest of the FIFA U17 World Cup of 2017 in Korea, was one of four players dropped from the Eagles on Wednesday, but Agu, who is an ex-international net minder, personally spoke to the keeper to take heart.
This comes after Ajiboye admitted he was deeply gutted to miss out on Nigeria’s list of 25 released on Wednesday, though he had earlier been in the 30-man provisional roster following his fine form at Plateau United.
He said: “It’s nothing to dwell too much on. The coach had to pick 23 players from a list 30, so it’s obvious that some people will be dropped at the end of the day.
“Unfortunately, I was one of those that won’t be in Russia. I must admit it was painful but there will always be another World Cup.
“The most important thing is to keep working hard and hope for a brighter future. I believe in myself and will keep working hard to get back into the team in future.”
