Chukwuma Akabueze’s seventh goal of the season in the Turkish 1.Lig proved decisive in Boluspor’s 2-1 win over Istanbulspor on Sunday.
Istanbulspor put up a scrap at times and even cancelled out Akabueze’s opener when Aldin Cajic equalised.
But Umit Kurt put the homers back in front and, despite Istanbulspor’s noble efforts, Boluspor managed to hold on and increased their points to 35 and in ninth, three places off the final play offs spot.
Four minutes into kickoff, former Kwara United, Brann, Odd and Wuhan winger Akabueze raced Boluspor in front much to the delight of the cheering fans.
Istanbulspor levelled 11 minutes later when Aldin Cajic scored from the penalty spot.
But Boluspor restored their lead in the 27th minute, as Umit Kurt was the man at the right place to wreck the ship.
Proceedings continued to be open after the break – Akabueze going fairly close within 15 minutes of the restart.
Everything points to the battle for the play off spots, meaning there could be plenty more twists and turns in the final weeks of the season.
Boluspor travel to Giresunspor next Saturday in continuation of their Turkish second tier campaign.
