Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has backed coach Gernot Rohr to stick to the same formation and squad that was used to conquer Libya 4 – 0 in the first leg of the double header of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Uyo.
Despite being fit and always willing to play his part in the team, the Chippa United of South Africa shot stopper believes that changing a winning selection might be detrimental to the team’s chemistry.
Reacting to the overall team performance Akpeyi said “I think the team did exceptionally well. To beat a team like Libya 4 – 0 is not an easy one considering what they played against South Africa in their last game, so I think they did very well.
Bursaspor of Turkey defender Abdullahi Shehu picked up an early injury in the match which led to Torino defender Ola Aina getting a much needed time with the team and Apkeyi insists that starting up with the same team in Sfax on Tuesday will help the team gel better. “For me I think he should stick to the winning team except if something happens but that is the coach’s job but left to me, I think the squad that played against Libya should continue.”
