Akpoborie Doubtful Super Eagles will Fly in Ivory Coast

Date:

Former Super Eagles Forward, Jonathan Akpoborie has not held back in his criticism of the team ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Ivory Coast next year.

The Super Eagles will be looking to not just compete but to win the trophy when hostilities start with their first game against Equatorial Guinea on January 14.

However, in a chat with Brila FM, the former Nigeria International said, “Honestly, I don’t follow the Super Eagles that much these days and it is because the quality of football isn’t as high anymore.

“I watch these individual players at their club side and they perform well, but when they don the Nigerian colors, they don’t really perform as much as they do for their private clubs and it really tells.”

“Something might be wrong and I strongly believe that we don’t have the right coach handling the boys. From day 1, it had always been the wrong person handling the team. I’d be surprised if they do well at the AFCON.”

“The other teams in our group look harmless but we are so bad that anybody can step up and beat the Super Eagles. And with so much talent, that’s concerning. I hope and expect that we do well but I’m not expecting a lot.”
