Hannover 96 of Germany defender, Kevin Akpoguma has put the option of playing for the Super Eagles behind his desire for a national team call-up by the country of his birth, footballlive.ng reports.
The Nigerian-born youngster confessed that he knows about Germany more than his father’s country, hence the stronger allegiance he feels for the European country, and is ready to wait for their invitation.
Akpoguma noted how Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr is putting lots of pressure on him to star for Nigeria, but stressed that he is prepared to wait for Germany’s call-up, even if he has to wait until he is 27 years old.
The rising star, who has been touted with a switch to Nigeria since 2014, has collected 64 youth caps for Germany at U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 level, with the youth team’s captain’s band among his honours.
Akpoguma admitted: ”Gernot Rohr is still interested in me and would be happy, but I do not want to close the door to the German national team.
“Even if Joachim Löw calls me at the age of 27 for a game or two, that would be an honor for me, because Germany is where I was born.”
