Mohammed Babaganaru, the new technical adviser of Akwa United, has described his team’s 1-0 loss to Doma United as a result of hard luck. Despite expressing disappointment with the outcome, Babaganaru also criticized his players for their inability to capitalize on numerous scoring opportunities during the match.
Akwa United suffered the defeat at their home ground, the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, with Emmanuel Jesam netting the only goal of the game in the sixth minute for Doma United.
Speaking to the club’s media after the match, Babaganaru said, “The result of this match wasn’t what we had anticipated. We aimed to build on our previous positive result from Jos, but football can be unpredictable.”
Expressing his disbelief at the missed chances, he continued, “Considering the many opportunities we created during the game, it’s surprising that we couldn’t find the back of the net. Our aim was to secure a win and climb out of the relegation zone, but unfortunately, it didn’t pan out as planned.”
On his team’s performance, Babaganaru acknowledged the players’ efforts but pointed out the consequences of failing to convert chances. “The boys put in a commendable performance and created ample chances. However, our failure to convert those opportunities cost us the game. I’m uncertain whether the team was overconfident or underestimated their opponents,” he remarked.
Despite the setback, Babaganaru remains optimistic about his team’s prospects, stating, “While we didn’t secure a victory today, there were many positives to take from this match. I believe these lessons will be beneficial as we approach the remaining matches of the season.”
Following this defeat, Akwa United now occupy the 18th position on the league table.
