Al Ahly striker Junior Ajayi is a major doubt for his side’s Egyptian Premier League opening match with Ismaily on Thursday evening.
The former Shooting Stars striker sustained a serious knee injury during the 1-0 victory over Township Rollers in the CAF Champions League fourth round game on Saturday.
He was taken off before half time and is expected to undergo MRI scan to ascertain the severity of the injury.
Ajayi’s substitution on Saturday is reportedly precautionary, with the player likely to sit out the game against Ismaily on Thursday.
“Ajayi will undergo MRI scanning in Cairo to determine his absence period,” Al Ahly Club Doctor Khaled Mahmoud said.
The Cairo giants, who are second in Group A of the CAF Champions League with seven points, will kick off their Egyptian Premier League campaign on Thursday against Ismaily.
