Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi was in exceptional form for his club side Fulham during their 1-0 win in a club friendly against Portuguese side Benfica on Friday night at the Estadio Algarve.
Back with the number 17, Iwobi scored the only goal of the game and rightfully earned the Man of the Match award.
Benfica dominated the early stages of the first half, frequently testing Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno with a series of attempts. However, Fulham managed the situation and grew into the game.
A 21st-minute failed Benfica attack led to a swift counter by Fulham, orchestrated by the tireless Adama Traore and calmly finished off by Iwobi.
Iwobi was later substituted in the 79th minute for Martial Godo. His performance was complemented by a solid defensive display from Super Eagles teammate Calvin Bassey, who played the full 90 minutes.
Looking ahead, Fulham will face Sevilla at the same stadium on Monday night, in what promises to be an exciting match with the potential for four Nigerian players to feature: Iwobi and Bassey for the Cottagers; Chidera Ejuke and Kelechi Iheanacho for the La Liga side.
