Super Eagles coach Imama Amapakabo has praised the quality as well as versatility of Olamilekan Adeleye after he finally made his long-awaited Super Eagles debut against Liberia.
FC Ifeanyiubah defender Adeleye was a second-half substitute for FC Porto ace Chidozie Awaziem at right fullback and he gave a good account of himself against the Lone Star in Monrovia.
Imama told footballlive.ng “Adeleye has opened our eyes to his versatility and has proved he can play at this level.
“He is a centre-back, but he played at right fullback and proved to the team he could also be an option there.”
Gernot Rohr has said he is shopping for fullback options after he complained about those who played those positions against Seychelles at the weekend.
Adeleye was outstanding at last year’s WAFU Cup in Ghana, where Nigeria went all the way to the final.
He was named in the tournament XI, but injury caused him to miss this year’s CHAN in Morocco.
Imama also commended the other NPFL stars who featured against Liberia – Mfon Udoh, Sunday Adetunji (Enyimba and Ebube Duru (Lobi Stars).
“Despite the short notice for this game and almost no training with the team, they were worthy representatives of the NPFL,” he remarked.
