Another Nigerian Gets Switzerland Invitation Vs France

Date:

FC Basel of Switzerland youngster, Noah Okafor has received a call-up to the youth national team of the country where he plies his trade, ahead of an upcoming friendly against France.

Footballlive.ng reports that Okafor has been knocking on the door of a future international senior career with Switzerland, and his hopes now appear getting closer to reality than ever.

Such it is that the mulatto kid has been named in the Swiss under-21 squad for the first time in his career ahead of the clash with France on Friday, despite copping an injury on international duty with the under-19 side last month.

The 18-year-old suffered a tear in the abductor muscle in a UEFA U19 Championship qualifier against Spain on October 16, which led to his substitution in the 11th minute, three days after scoring in a 2-0 win against Andorra.

However, in a smart move to ward off Nigeria’s reach for Okafor, Switzerland have elevated the youngster and are eager to cap him at senior level.

This has occasioned his quick promotion to the under-21 side, without him first playing for the under-20 team, as he has already made nine appearances for FC Basel’s main squad and has a goal to show so far this season.

Before now, Okafor has earned caps for Switzerland at U15, U17, U18 and U19 levels, as the youngster, who is rated with pace and dribbling skills continues growing through the ranks with his country of birth.
