Nigerian International and Trabzonspor of Turkey forward Anthony Nwakaeme is at risk of being called up to the national team after going 630 minutes without a goal for his club in Turkey.
With the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations just around the corner and coach of the team Gernot Rohr expected to try new legs in test games it seems the former Hapoel Be’er Sheva player will be overlooked after a dip in scoring form despite always clocking 90 minutes for his club side.
Nwakaeme has featured for Trabzonspor this season in all of its league matches and has clocked 90 minutes in all but has been unable to find the back of the net in 2019 but has managed to rake in some assists for his teammates as his team continue to push for a UEFA Champions League position as they currently sit fourth on the table.
Nwakaeme last scored for Trabzonspor on the 23rd of December 2018 in a 4 – 1 win over Rizespor netting his goal in the 93rd minute of the encounter.
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr at the moment will have to choose from the likes of free-scoring Taiwo Awoniyi, Victor Osimhen, and Club Brugge’s forward Emmanuel Bonaventure. At the moment, Nwakaeme’s chances of returning to the Super Eagles looks slim with lack of goal being a major problem for him.
