Antony Continues Scintillating Form at Real Betis; Scores 3 in 3 Games

Date:

Manchester United loanee, Antony continued his impressive start to life in Spain, scoring for the third consecutive game as Real Betis secured a 3-0 victory over nine-man Real Sociedad on Sunday at the Benito Villamarín.

The 24-year-old winger, who had already found the net against Celta Vigo and Gent, opened the scoring with a stunning volley from just inside the box.

He also provided an assist for Marc Roca’s goal and won a penalty, which Giovani Lo Celso failed to convert. His outstanding display helped propel Betis to eighth place in LaLiga.

Antony’s Impact at Betis

Since joining on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season, Antony has made an immediate impact.

In four appearances across all competitions, he has been named Player of the Match in each of his three LaLiga outings against Athletic Club, Celta Vigo, and Real Sociedad, while also delivering a strong performance against Gent in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

“I think the most important thing is to be happy,” Antony told DAZN when asked about his newly found form.

“I am happy here. Things are coming off naturally. I am really happy to score and help the team.”

”I don’t have any goal targets, I am just working hard, staying focused, and enjoying every day.”

Antony has seamlessly integrated into Betis’ revamped attack, operating behind fellow January signing Cucho Hernández, who arrived from MLS side Columbus Crew, alongside Isco and young talent Jesús Rodríguez.

Pellegrini Praises Antony’s Influence

Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini lauded Antony’s performances, emphasizing the winger’s ability to change games.

“I’m delighted with our attacking players. I have always said that teams have to work as a collective, but it’s individuals who can decide matches,” Pellegrini said.

“Antony has started so well, and on top of that, he’s scoring goals — it wasn’t easy, the goal he scored today.”

Antony’s Future at Betis?

Despite Antony’s resurgence, his long-term future remains uncertain. He remains Manchester United’s second-most expensive signing, having joined the club from Ajax in 2022 for £80 million ($97.3 million).

A permanent transfer would likely be beyond Betis’ financial reach. However, club CEO Ramón Alarcón has suggested that extending Antony’s stay is “a possibility.”

“Why not?” Alarcón said when asked about the chances of retaining the Brazilian beyond the current campaign.

What Lies Ahead?

Betis now face back-to-back away fixtures, taking on Gent in the UEFA Europa Conference League before traveling to Getafe in LaLiga.

They will then host league leaders Real Madrid on March 2, which is likely a big test of their ambitions this season.
