Aribo’s Southampton Set for Promotion Playoffs

Date:

In a thrilling encounter at Elland Road, Southampton emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Leeds in their final match of the season in the Championship.

The visitors got off to a strong start when Adam Armstrong found the back of the net in the 18th minute, capitalizing on an assist from Che Adams to give Southampton the early lead.

However, Leeds quickly responded, with Joël Piroe leveling the score just three minutes later in the 21st minute, as they fought back to get back into the game.

Southampton regained their lead in the 35th minute when Will Smallbone scored, assisted by Kyle Walker-Peters, to make it 2-1 and put the visitors back in control.

Despite Leeds’ efforts to find an equalizer, Southampton held on to their lead for the remainder of the match, securing a crucial victory in their final game of the season.

Nigeria’s Joe Aribo was involved for the full length of the game, and put in a decent shift. The midfielder had one shot on target and made one accurate cross in front. Aribo also helped out defensively, blocking a shot, making two tackles and won 6 of his contested 9 ground duels.

With the win, Southampton finished the season in fourth place in the Championship standings, accumulating 87 points. Leeds, on the other hand, ended their campaign in third place with 90 points.

Both teams will now turn their attention to the promotion playoffs, where they will compete alongside West Brom and Norwich for a chance to secure promotion to the Premier League.
