Arokodare And Sor Star As Genk Claim Win

Date:

KRC Genk secured a second league win of the season against Beerschot, a captivating 4-3 win away from home. The fans at the Olympisch Stadion were treated to a rollercoaster football game, that had drama from start until the final whistle.

Simion Michez created the opening goal of the game in the 7th minute, with Ewan Henderson scoring from Michez’s assist as Beerschot landed the first punch of the game.  Genk responded shortly after, as Yira Sor won a penalty and Jarne Steuckers was on standby to convert the spot kick.

On the half-hour mark, Tolu Arokodare was on hand to score from Jarne Steuckers assist as the visitors got ahead in the tie. Carlos Cuesta made it 3-1 just 10 minutes after, as Genk raced into a commanding position.

Simion Michez pulled one back for Beerschot in the 61st minute, courtesy of an assist from Thibaud Verlinden. Nigerian duo, Yira Sor and Tolu Arokodare responded for Genk almost immediately, as Tolu got his fourth league of the season. Mujaid Sadick got sent off for Genk in the 75th minute, following a VAR check for a professional last man foul.

Beerschot made a last gap attempt to get back in the game, with Walet Cagro seeing his penalty ricochet off the woodwork. However, they still got a goal in the 87th minute courtesy of Katuku Derrick Tshimanaga.

Genk are now set to take on Anderlecht in their next league game, as they look to steady themselves after a wobbly start to the league season.
