In a tightly contested match at the Lotto Park, Anderlecht secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Genk. The home side took the lead just before halftime when Yari Verschaeren capitalized on a Mario Stroeykens assist to break the deadlock in the 44th minute. Anderlecht extended their lead in the 70th minute, with Kasper Dolberg finding the back of the net to make it 2-0.
However, Genk refused to go down without a fight and mounted a comeback effort. Tolu Arokodare pulled one back for the visitors in the 75th minute, scoring his 12th league goal of the season with an assist from Zakaria El Ouahdi. Despite their late surge, Genk couldn’t find the equalizer, and Anderlecht held on to claim all three points.
With this important win, Anderlecht maintained their position at the top of the championship standings. However, their lead is under threat, as Club Brugge could overtake them if they defeat Union Saint Gilloise. On the other hand, Genk find themselves trailing by 12 points in the championship round but still have a chance to secure Europa League qualification based on their current standing.
