FF Kalmar of Sweden defender, Gbenga Arokoyo is set for several weeks out on the sidelines, following surgery on a nagging injury he copped during pre-season drills with the Scandinavian club.
Footballlive.ng gathered that the former youth international and one-time Super Eagles invitee went under the knife on Monday, following repeated medical advise from experts.
Arokoyo earlier opted to play through the pain barrier, as he tried to weather the storm and battle on, with high hopes of getting natural recovery, only to give up when the situation did not improve.
Consequently, Arokoyo went under the knife at the start of the week and, although no exact timeline has been given for his absence, feelers indicate that the lanky stopper could even be out for the whole season.
That would mean the expect combo between Arokoyo and fellow-former Golden Eaglets star, Chidiebere Nwakali will not materialize.
Nwakali, who was part of the UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning squad, signed for Kalmar at the weekend, to join up with Arokoyo and Chima Akas on the team that once had Abiola Dauda on their wage bill.
