Alex Iwobi did not get blamed for anything after Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in Unai Emery’s first Premier League game as Gunners’ Boss on Sunday – so you’d think.
The Nigerian’s bench role throughout the game took some heat off his radar from the many edgy Gooners on social media, but they would have honestly hoped the player was out on the pitch offering up some invention, which Emery’s team lacked.
But one busybody on Twitter still found a reason to criticize the 22-year-old.
A user, @realJosh_ in his “wisdom” composed a thread and tweeted:
Yesterday’s game against Man City proved even further why Arsenal needed to sign a winger. A proper winger.
Deploying Mhki, Ramsey, Iwobi or Ozil on the flanks won’t cut it.
Minsilat and co dropped the ball on this one.
It was a great game. From an Arsenal perspective, there were positives.
Special mention to Guendouzi. Boy is a baller. He still has a lot to learn too.

Man! Iwobi did not even get to stretch out or leave his seat on the bench!
Despite the bad belle, some fans still saw need for Iwobi either in Sunday’s defeat or in future games.
That was the major probs we had yesterday if we had someone like Iwobi or Nelson to stretch play on the sings score would have been different

Hi Memz, I thought Unai was really playing it safe yesterday. Play Cech because he didn’t want to risk with Leno in the first game. We saw glimpses of Cech from last season, instead of starting Ramsey, we should have started Iwobi instead. I think iwobi would made much difference

Since we are in experimenting/testing mode would you make a big (4-5 players) rotation for the next game? Iwobi, Laca, Holding, Torreira. Leno? Given that its an away game, pressure could be slightly off #arsecastextra
