Arsenal FC has Congratulated Super Eagles winger Alex Iwobi and Gabonese striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang for their inclusion in the 34-man list of nominees for the 2018 CAF African Footballer of the year award.
Iwobi was nominated alongside fellow Eagles stars, Odion Ighalo who plays for Changchun Yatai in China and Ahmed Musa who plies his trade with Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
Iwobi’s Arsenal teammate Pierre Emerick Aubameyang won the most prestigious individual award in Africa back in 2015 beating off competition from Yaya Toure and Andrew Ayew. He came second behind Riyad Mahrez in 2016 and was third on the list in 2017 when Mohammed Salah won the award.
Aubameyang will be one of the favorites to win the 2018 edition having been in impressive form for Arsenal and the gunners through their twitter handle wrote. “Auba and #BIG17 flying our flag at the Confederation of African football Awards. Both players are both up for African Player of the Year award.”
The winner of the award will be decided by CAF Technical & Development Committee, media experts, legends, coaches of the quarter-finalists of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, coaches and captains of the national teams of the 54 Member Associations.
