FC Nantes of France defender, Chidozie Awaziem has declared that he will give his very best in the Super Eagles’ camp, in order to justify his inclusion in the provisional list for the World Cup and stake a strong claim for a spot in the final roster to Russia 2018.
Awaziem feels he still has a good chance of going to Russia with the Eagles, as he wants to finally bury memories of his recent errors in action with the squad and prove his mettle in training.
The Nantes defender, who has won three caps, was on Monday named in Nigeria’s 30 man provisional squad for Nigeria despite his poor outing against Serbia in a recent international friendly in London.
The centre-back is expected to return to his parent club, FC Porto at the expiration of his loan deal at Nantes, but he is looking to3wards this weekend to sign off in style.
Awaziem, who has made 23 Ligue 1 appearances for 10th place Nantes, will hope to be in action when they face Strassbourg at home in their final league match of the season on Saturday, they turn his focus fully on the Eagles’ camp.
He says that he is motivated to work harder and regain trust when competition for places hots up in camp, but parried talk that he wants to use the Mundial as a stepping stone for a big transfer.
“It’s a rare opportunity for me and I think that has given me the motivation to work harder and want to get in to prove that my performance against Serbia was a one-off.
“I’ve been in a lot of squads in the past year but this one I must make it count. The World Cup is every player’s dream and I am happy to be in the preliminary squad.
“The fight is still on. I know if I play to my ability I will have a good chance. It’s up to me to do that.”
“I settled in well at Nantes but I want to focus on making the final 23 with the Super Eagles. After the World Cup, a decision will be made on where next I will be playing.”
