Date:

Almost forgotten defender, Chidozie Awaziem was back in action for FC Porto of Portugal, and played a cameo role in their qualification for the for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Footballlive.ng reports that Awaziem, who had been on loan last season at FC Nantes of France, got off Porto’s bench inn the 81st minutes of their 3-2 win away to Galatasaray.

Tuesday’s win at the home of Henry Onyekuru’s Turkish Super Lig club saw Awaziem and his colleagues edge into the UCL round of 16 alongside Shalke 04 of Germany.

Awaziem returned to the spotlight at Turk Telecom Stadium in Istanbul for his maiden appearance the Champions League, and the often widely pilloried stopper got full bonus.

In the other Group D game, Bryan Idowu was an unused substitute in Lokomotiv Moscow’s 1-0 away defeat to Schalke 04 at Veltins Arena.
