Awaziem Joins Quest For Trabzonspor Contract

Date:

FC Porto of Portugal defender, Chidozie Awaziem is the latest Nigerian star to get a January transfer link with Trabzonspor of Turkey, as reports from Land Of The Ottoman reveal he could be on the way to joining Eddy Ogenyi Onazi at the top-flight club.

Footballlive.ng gathered that Awaziem has now joined Efe Ambrose as the latest Nigerian to enter Trabzonspor’s radar, which means two of the country’s established central defenders are on the cards to link forces with Onazi this month.

However, while Ambrose is seeking a full transfer, after opting out of a contract extension with Hibernian of Scotland, Awaziem is looking at the possibility of joining Onazi’s club on loan.

Awaziem, who played under similar circumstances at FC Nantes of France last season, and excelled during that time, is seeking another short-term deal that would help him up his game in Trabzon, Turkey.

Although Awaziem is said to have earlier gained attention from another Portuguese club, Martimo, the suitors are 15th on the top-flight table and face relegation to the second division.

Though Awaziem has seen only 98 minutes of competitive action so far this season, he has played three appearances for Porto’s B-team in the Portuguese second division.

Rather than face the challenges of battling against relegation in the second half of the season, the 22-year-old Awaziem, who has played just two major games for Porto this season, prefers to join Onazi in Turkey.

It would be the chance to gain a lift heading into the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations for Awaziem, whose biggest game for Porto this season came in the UEFA Champions League.
