Former youth international striker, Taiwo Awoniyi is heading back to his parent club, Liverpool of England to get confirmation of his next port of call, following their termination of his loan spell at KAA Gent.
Footballlive.ng gathered that the 21-year-old striker is likely to get a fresh loan deal from The Reds, who are yet to find a place for him in their squad since signing him in 2014, mostly because of work permit issues.
Despite shinning on loan at another Belgian club, Royal Excel Mouscron last season, Awoniyi fell out of favour at Gent,. following the arrival of a new coach, Jess Thorup, in October
Awoniyi, who has previously played on loan at FSV Frankfurt of Germany and NEC Nijmegen of Holland, could not hit a range under Thorup, such that he found game time hard to find and dropped out of the spotlight.
In a qucik reaction to Liverpool’s decision to recall Awoniyi, Gent signed Crystal Palace forward, Alexander Sorloth on loan for the remainder of the season, meaning they are happy to cancel the Nigerian’s deal.
Consequently, Awoniyi is heading back to Merseyside this weekend, as he seeks to know where his future lies, but The Reds are likely to find another club for the forward to play in the second half of the season.
