Babajide, Umotong Celebrate Women’s Cup Goals

Date:

Two England-based Nigerian female football stars, Ini Umotong and Riinsola Babajide are celebrating goals that they enacted with their respective clubs last weekend, as gathered by footballlive.ng.

Umotong was on target in Brighton & Hove WFC’s 3-1 win over London Bees in the group stage of the FA Continental Tyres League Cup on Sunday afternoon.

Umotong made it 1-1 with a close range finish after going past her marker, and could have doubled her team’s advantage but her effort from the edge of the box was saved by the opposing goalkeeper.

Brighton’s first change saw Peplow replace Umotong twenty minutes into the second half, but Umotong and her teammates held on to eke out victory, and will now travel to face Birmingham City on Wednesday.

On her part, Babajide made her mark with Liverpool, as they beat Durham Women 5-4 on penalties in the group stage of the Continental Tyres Cup on Sunday.

Babajide, who opened her goals account for the season, was named in the starting line-up and provided an assist for Bradley-Auckland in the second minute but it was 1-1 after the restart.

Babajide took Liverpool back into tie when she pulled a goal back in the 71st minute, as the former Watford star curled home from inside the area.

She hit target after receiving a pass from Niamh Charles, before Sweetman-Kirk got the equalizer with three minutes left on the clock, which took the game to penalties.

However, Babajide was not among The Reds penalty takers as she was substituted in the 75th minute.
