SV Mainz of Germany defender, Leon Aderemi Balogun could be on his way to becoming the next Nigerian player to star for fellow-German Bundesliga side, Schalke 04, as his current contract is set to run out in the summer.
Though the 29-year-old stopper has also attracted attention from English Premier League outfit, Huddersfield Town, Schalke want him to take after Victor Okechukwu Agali and Chinedu Obasi in playing for their team.
However, Mainz have also not given up on keeping the Nigeria international defender, with their hopes now renewed after surviving relegation from the top-flight in Germany over the past weekend.
It may turn out to be a straight fight between Mainz and Schalke should Huddersfield fail to survive their ongoing relegation dogfight in England, where they have two matches left to decide their fate.
