Balogun Stakes Claim For Boxing Day Battle

Date:

Brighton & Hove Albion defender, Leon Aderemi Balogun staged a bold claim for action against Arsenal on Boxing Day, as he put up a brilliant personal performance in his side’s battle with Bournemouth.

Although Balogun could not save his side from falling at Vitality Stadium, as a brace from David Brooks saw Bournemouth win 2-0, footballlive.ng gathered that x-factors are working in favour of the Super Eagles star.

Balogun actually went the distance for the third game in a row, but his hope of starring in midweek against Arsenal have been boosted with the fact that his central defence partner, Lewis Dunk got a red card.

Dunk was sent off in Saturday’s game, after getting a second bookable offense in the encounter, which saw Jordon Ibe go on in the second minute of stoppage time while Nnamdi Ofoborh was not dressed.

Balogun has partnered Dunk for the last three Premier League game, as regular starter, Shane Duffy was sent off against Crystal Palace.

Duffy is expected to return to the squad on Wednesday but Dunk is not available for selection after he was sent off on Saturday.

This means Balogun could be given the nod to start his fourth straight game for Brighton, who are just nine points above the last relegation spot occupied by Burnley.

Brighton boss, Chris Hughton admitted that Balogun could retain his place in the starting line-up when Arsenal visit the American Express Community Stadium on Wednesday.

”Lewis has been very good for us all season and so has Shane. We’ve got him coming back now, but we’ve also got Balogun, who I think has done really well.

“That’s the competition that you want. What we’ve had in that position are players that have played very well, so whenever you lose one it’s a big blow for the team.”
